Blog Notes

Hey everyone, Brazeloin here,

So,I know that we all want to put up parts of the story, but I would like to start by editing this starting post so we all know what to expect.

So first thing is first… I will make chapter posts for each chapter. I will deffinitely need someone to remind me of the titles for the chapters, so feel free to edit the title if I messed it up, or forgot it completely.

Second, I would like to post an initial chunk for each chapter during the game. This way, we can get exactly what Clay says and have that as the basic information. After I post it, I would like to invite you ALL to add any information that you took from the game and that I may have missed. This way, we can have an extensive knowledge base for all the parts of the legend of Ambitus.

Third. Have fun!!! This is our page! This is our story! It will be a great time and I am honored to spend it with wonderful gamers like you!!

So yes… Post away in the available chapters :D

Chapter 1: The Burning Plague
Duvic Saved

Well first off any outsiders looking in on this adventure The Burning Plague is not an STD.

This is the adventure that started it all.

It starts in the town of Duvic, a little mining town that seems very quiet until the disappearances of several miners in the town and a mysterious plague that is slowing killing the townspeople. A group of wannabe heroes rise to the challenge and even though they are all different and come from many walks of life they decide that it would be best if they all team up so they can all survive.

This group includes Glimfarn, Octavar, Aiden, and Madeus. So the group got supplied and headed into the mine. They noticed it was too dark to see and tho only lighting they had were a few torches. Luckily, Octavar was a dwarve and could see well in dark rooms. While the rest of the group stayed by the entrance, Octavar searched the hallway and rooms for danger. When he called back that it was safe the rest of the group entered the room and examined everything. After almost triggering a trap they discovered an interesting stone that could be useful later. They noticed there were two paths and decided to go left first. They came to a wooden door and heard what sounded like gibberish.

They had Octavar sneak in and when he saw the most fearsome creatures in all the Serpent Coils…kolbolds. He threw the stone and it deafened them and afterward he ran outside and the battle began. The heroes killed all but one and Madeus chopped his hands off and he ran away. They then tried to interrogate the beast, but he was still deaf. They just killed it and decided to camp in this room for the night.

They checked out the locked room the next morning and found out it was just a closet. As they were searching a dire weasel attacked Aiden and the group had to save him quickly. They hit it with everything they could, and after what seemed like forever the beast died.

So they headed back and went the other way. They came into the room and it was a huge cavern with no way to go but up. Unfortunately, Madeus and Aiden were not very good climbers so they decided to have Glimfarn and Octavar climb up the wall and lower rope down to the other two. As Madeus and Aiden were climbing up, Glimfarn heard a strange sound across the hallway. Let the battle begin!

It was another group of kolbolds, but this time they had a leader that was a sorcerer of some kind. The group killed the leader first and then slowly took out the rest of the puny kolbolds. Aiden discovered a hidden door and the group explored it. Inside were two baby kolbolds and a bunch of other things. The group concluded that this was the kolbold hideout. Octavar and Glimfarn thought they should kill the kobolds, but Madeus being the “holy warrior” that he is decided that it would not be the right thing to do. The group discovered a fancy magic cloak and a strange potion.

They headed into the next room which was just filled with several bodies of miners and kolbolds. All of a sudden a hand reached out of the ground and grabbed Glimfarn by the foot. Then several zombies came up from the ground and the group was forced to fight again. They defeated the zombies easily, but now they all had the plague.

They walked into the next room and saw the evil orc causing all the trouble with the town. Madeus drank the potion and it made him grow exponentially. He then threw the orc off his perch and with multiple wounds he died and cursed the group with his dying breath. After his death the plague virtually disappered and Glimfarn, Madeus, Aiden, and Octavar were on their way to becoming true heroes.

Chapter 2: The Brawl In Rockfall
Deception in Rockfall

Madeus, Aidan, Octavar, and Glimfarn arrived in the town of Rockfall after their battle with the Kobolds. On the road to the town, they met up with a Cleric, named Brazeloin, and he was invited to join them on their journey. They made their way past the gate keepers, and upon entering the city, they felt like something was amiss. The townspeople were all down and in poverty. The streets were dirty and the buildings looked worn down. They decided to take refuge at the criminally expensive Tavern, The Cliffside, and managed to procure rooms for the night.

That night, as they slept in comfort, two Orcs broke into their room and they were forced to fight in unforgiving circumstances. They managed to win, and that morning, set out for the market to buy armor, weapons, provisions, rations, and other necessities. They then decided to seek out the military leader of Rockfall, Hadrian Roamsen, and try to find out why the town was in the state it was in. Hadrian informed our heroes that a man known as the Alchemist was kidnapping citizens from the town and killing them, and that the Alchemist might retaliate to the executions of his fellow conspirators scheduled in three days . He beseiched our heroes to stop the “mad man” and bring peace back to Rockfall.

The group set off to find a way into the Alchemist’s Tower. The tower’s main street door was locked tight, so they decided to try and use the stables to sneak into the towns storage building in the dead of night and use the secret tunnel that the retired smuggler, Rotface, alluded to them. Once they had made it into the tunnel, they noticed that it was crumbling and open to the outside, which led to a sheer cliff face. One bad step could have spelled the end of the group, but they steeled their nerves and, after an encounter with a swarm of feral rats, they arrived in the ground floor of the Alchemist’s Tower.

The tower smelled of age and mildew, but our heroes were not scared. They mounted the staircase and, four floors later, arrived in a large room with a bay window that faced the town square, where a gallows stood, with many ropes tied into nooses. Infront of this window sat a chair, and in that chair sat a hunched figure, the Alchemist. The heroes rushed over to him only to find out that he was bleeding… stabbed by a blade of some kind. He informed them that Hadrian was actually the mastermind behind the deaths in Rockfall, and that he needed the group to stop his strange nefarious plans. The group took his plea over Hadrian’s charge and took the lift up to the top floor, where Hadrian awaited them.

The group confronted the evil Hadrian, and he revealed to them the truth about of his plan, how he used the Alchemist’s name to strike fear into the hearts of Rockfall and move himself up the ranks until he eventually would rule all of Rockfall. He also informed them that the gallows below contained barrels of explosive powder underneath them, and that they would blow up half of Rockfall, leaving him as the shining beacon of hope in the dark hour. Our heroes would not allow this, and Brazeloin took a zip line down to the gallows to try and evacuate the citizens, but broke both his legs in the process. He managed to still alert the people to the imminent danger, as the crafty dwarf, Octavar disarmed the bomb. The other heroes, however, were locked in deadly combat with Hadrian. he seemed to have the upper hand until he was pushed to the edge of the tower. He laughed and left the heroes with this message: “Men fear those who mind themselves” before smiling for the last time and throwing himself off of the tower, thereby refusing any true stability between the factions in the trading post.

Though not able to stop Hadrian and keep him alive, the group managed to save the Alchemist and help make the town of Rockfall regain part of its glory. They then learned that the Alchemist, revealed to be named Henry Creval, had a brother that helped him to build the entire town of Rockfall, but his brother became jealous of Henry and left him. He charges the group to seek him out if they can. It was at this time that Brazeloin chose to leave the group for a time and pursue the art of Alchemy. And so, Madeus, Octavar, Adian, and Glimfarn left the town of Rockfall behind them, saying goodbye to friend new and old, but knowing that their paths would cross again… soon.

Chapter 3: The Heroes Gambit
The Wayside Tavern

The group has been temporarily splintered. Glimfarn, Madeus, Octavar, and Aiden proceed to leave Rockfall and move on to find the Alchemist’s brother. While Brazeloin decided to stay behind and learn the teachings of the Alchemist.

The traveling group eventually makes their way into an old abandoned tavern. They were awoken in the middle of the night by a traveling merchant. The merchant was after a criminal named Gambit and enlisted the help of our heroes to catch him. They first needed to locate the criminal in the area. Glimfarn and Octavar scouted the area and Glimfarn discovered footprints that lead to a door beneath the tavern. They cautiously made their way down to the dungeon and noticed a small gnome sitting around a fire in a room below them.

After Glimfarn gracefully glided across the gap and placed the board over so the others could cross. Gambit discovered them and instead of fighting revealed that he wasn’t the target, but that the adventurers themselves were the ones being hunted. Then just as soon as the betrayal was revealed, Gambit escaped down a hole and the group were attacked, yet again, by orcs. They fought them off with ease and Octavar finished off the last one as he tried to escape.

The group moved on and found themselves with two ways to go. They decided to go left and fell for a a trap. They fell down a flight of stairs and fell into a pit of bones. Then out a hole came ten dire rats and the group fought them all off. They searched around and found some gold and a ring. They went the other way and saw a strange skeleton floating toward them. Unfortunately, it was actually a gelatinous cube. They tried to retreat and set a trail of fire to burn the cube but it broke through, and Madeus was devoured by the beast. The others eventually killed the cube and Madeus barely came out with his life.

The adventurers then entered through a collapsed wall into what appeared to be an underground lake. Before they could do anything about passing through, the players were faced with yet another trial; this time it was a water elemental. It took a while, but the aqueous monster was finally beaten. Since the only way out was swimming they had to find a way out without drowning. They discovered a boat behind a stalagmite. Madeus and Aiden sat in the boat, while Glimfarn and Octavar tried to guide it through the rapids. They eventually made their way to a small outcropping in the middle of the lake and found Gambit sitting there.

He told them that they had a bounty on their heads from the orcs and he would meet us in Ravenloft and help us with our little orc problem. So they escaped the dungeon and later killed the merchant and got some very nice fake silver spoons. And so the trek toward Ravenloft ensued….

Chapter 4: The Adventurers Part Ways
The Passing of the Ways

The group finally discovered the great city of Ravenloft. They arrived at evening and needed to find a place to sleep for the night. They decided to go their separate ways. They were told that the town was in disarray because several hundred murders had been happening in town. Madeus and Aiden decided to go to the holy temple, where they met with a man named Otivan Gordon, while Glimfarn and Octavar went into the slums to track down the criminal.

They went to the crappiest bar in town named Holbold’s Craft, but it was more known to the townsfolk as Kolbold’s Craft due to the location and building in the town. They sat around and enjoyed a few swigs of ale, when a drunken man walked up to them and acused them that they need to leave before he kicked them out. Octavar then stabbed the man and killed him instantly. This also started a bar fight that got way out of control and to the surprise of our heroes they met up with Brazeloin in the middle of the fight. After Glimfarn cut off a guy’s arm the group of renegades ran off and met up with a stranger from a theives guild. He offered them a contract to hunt down a half-orc that owed them money. The group accepted the contract and was told that the half-orc could be found around a local casino.

They located the owner, who them proceeded to attack them with guards and attack dogs. What made this battle so difficult was the fact that the group had to fight off the enemies with their fists because they had to give up their weapons at the door. After killing the owner they discovered a key to the criminal’s house.

Glimfarn, Octavar, and Brazeloin made their way to his home and discovered an odd symbol behind an old dresser. They went upstairs and found some potions and a note that was very hard to read. They scaled the rooftops and tumbled through a wall and met up with the rest of the group, which now included a very charismatic sorcerer named Salvior. Madeus had a bit of trouble walking across the rickety floor, but Brazeloin ultimately fell down through the floor. They descended down the hole and found themselves in the sewers of the city. They walked for what felt like miles and eventually came upon what looked to be an alter of some kind. Glimfarn recognized a corpse of the man they were supposed to find. Then a crazed citizen started talking about his wife and how pretty she was and how he was going to bring her back to life. He held a black, leather bound, ancient book in his arms, and when he read from it, the air became heavy with the stench of death and the feel of Hell itself. This brought a demon from the nine hells upon the group, but they were ready for battle.

The creature was quite a challenge for our heroes, but they eventually defeated the evil being.

The two groups seperated yet again, but only so Glimfarn’s group could get the cash and Madeus’s group could tell what happened to the leader of the holy temple. Who’s killing everyone and will our heroes ever find and defeat this killer? Keep with us to find out…

Chapter 5: What the Waters May Wash Away
We Really Didn't Mean To Kill These People

Gambit made his way over to the group and asked them for their help. Hesitant to do so, the group listened to his proposition. Gambit told them of the Orc Kingdom that lay in the distance… home to the same tribe of Orcs that were hunting them down. He told them of the Dwarven Dam that was situated above the village, and how opening the dam would flood the kingdom and “wash them away,” thereby ceasing any future attacks. Hesitant to believe him, the adventurers packed their supplies and donned their winter garb, setting of for the village of orcs.

After a week of travel, the group arrived at the Dwarven Dam. A large stone wheel sat on the ledge overlooking the orc camp a mile or so below, and as they turned it, the floodgates opened, releasing a torrent of water, the distant sound of screams filled the icy air and the group couldn’t help but feel as if something were not right. Contemplation, however, was short, for the very waters they themselves had released, now cut off their only safe avenue of escape. With no means of going back, our heroes ventured into the black foreboding depths of Silver Reach.

Within the water works of Silver Reach, they discovered the resting place of five adventurers, known to the group as the Five Heroes of Ambitus. Knowing that they were on their trail, and believing the Alchemist’s brother had been through here as well, they continued on, braving dark chambers and unknown dangers, such as floors that gave way to pits of spikes or rooms with fake doors that filled with water – trapping unsuspecting adventurers (Brazeloin). After much walking, they eventually found themselves in what seemed like the longest, darkest hall they had ever come across.

The group arrived in a room filled with great, colossal, mechanical gears On a altar in the room sat a large blue crystal. Upon investigation, Brazeloin and the group were thrust into a vision of the Heroes, telling them of their original expedition into the dwarven halls and the unspeakable evil that resided here. The final words from the vision were “It comes…. Run, Run!” As soon as they awoke from the vision, they heard shrieks of terror from down the hall, and Madeus sensed that a massive amount of Undead Soldiers were approaching them from all sides. Knowing that death was quickly approaching… the group stood their ground, fighting their way through wave after wave of undead until they found themselves in a large antechamber, where lay the remains of a massive dragon. Inside the bones of this creature sat a Hydra, the most fearsome foe our heroes had met to date.

A climactic battle ensued, in which the Hydra displayed its prowess with the Ice element, attempting to freeze the warriors and eat them alive. Finally, after a desperate struggle, the group managed to slay the dreaded beast, calming the Undead in the process. One skeleton approached the group, wearing a Holy Symbol of Pelor on his neck. This symbol, the group determined, must have belonged to Albatros, the Legendary Cleric of the heroes. Brazeloin took it and replaced his symbol with the holy relic. They group hurried out of the room, arriving in a smaller room, with an elevator that seemed to lead up a long mineshaft.

With as strong pull of a lever, the lift began to ascend the shaft with breaknecking speeds. Would our heroes make it out of the tunnels alive, what awaits them on the surface above? And what of Gambit?

A Saga of Fire and Ice

Chapter 6: The Flight of the Phoenix

Part 1: Ice and Ashes

Madeus, Brazeloin, Glimfarn, Aiden and Octovar emerge from the depths of the Dwarven Kingdom to find themselves in an open, arena looking area of the mountains. Salvior had somehow dissipated on the ascent, but the adventurers knew he would be safe, no matter where fate took him. The weather seemed to be holding itself off for the time being, but for how long…? They attempted to find shelter in a coal mine shaft, but they were ambushed and had to move on. They eventually found shelter inside the mountains other chambers, eventually finding their way to a large tower that seemed to sit at the center of the bowl. The group found themselves staring at it longingly for a moment every time they approached it, and made the decision to enter it and determine its secrets.

During the trek up the tower, Brazeloin seemed to develop a headache, but put it aside to continue the expedition. After facing traps and trials, they made it to the 4th floor of the spire, where upon using the mechanisms located there, they discovered a flying machine. This discovery caused Brazeloin to almost pass out, as his contact with the blue stone in the gear room of the Dwarven Dam had given him the charge of Albatros, and he was experiencing memories and feelings that the old Cleric had felt before.

That night, the group determined that they would need to try and repair the flying machine if they were to have a chance of escaping. This task fell upon Aiden and Brazeloin, as their Alchemical training had given them the necessary and basic skills needed to try and repair it, and Glimfarn and Madeus offered to return to the tunnels and search for more materials for the Alchemists to use for repairs, and Octovar was to stay behind and protect them.

However, that night……….

Fatum Carver spoke in their dreams again that night. The story told to the group was that of the Heroes visit to the tower they resided in. It was revealed to them that there were originally two flying machines, and that the one they had with them was the Phoenix. Its wrecked state was due to being attacked on take-off, where the Kolbolds had shot it down. The pilot, Saiker Calum, attempted to escape the failing craft and made it, however, his finger was shot and severed, and his ring (given to him by Albatros) fell back to the tower below as they made their escape.

The next morning, the adventurers made it to the roof of the tower. The view was majestic… they could see far off to different reaches of the Serpent Coil. On the ground, they discovered a bone that looked to be that of a finger, and on it sat a red ruby ring. They believed it to be the ring of Albatros and Saiker, and they decided to hold on to it for safe keeping.

What awaits our heroes as they make the repairs and attempt to make it off the mountain…?

Chapter 7: Fire in the Sky

The heroes decided to leave Adian and Brazeloin to work on the Phoenix while the others went back to explore the rest of the caves and see if there were other methods of getting out of the mountains. As they explored, they encountered a Snow Beast, the creature that had been stalking them for days. It proved too much for Madeus, Octavar, and Glimfarn to handle, and it managed to escape, leaving them troubled. Back at the Tower however, Aiden felt that Tiki, his familiar that had tagged along with the explorers, felt a strong fear, and he and Brazeloin instantly went on the offensive. The group met back up that night, and they learned that Aiden had also discovered signs of campfire from an area below them… signs of life, perhaps?

The next morning, the trio decided to explore the caves and see if they could find a way out. After much exploration, they came upon an open area, inhabited by Kobolds. They asked to be shown where the leader of their tribe sat, and they were introduced to Hadzik of the Hadzik Clan. They told him about their troubles, and the lack of help with the Phoenix. Hadzik offered them his servent, Agget, better known as Aggy. In return, Hadzik asked for something in trade. Madeus presented him with a set of polished silver spoons, and Hadzik, who had an affinity for shiny things, took them with pleasure. The adventurers had made yet another ally.

Aggy walked with a hunch and was crippled. He also carried with him a dragons egg, which the adventurers identified as a pseudo-dragon. Aggy cared for the egg more than anything! And soon, Madeus and the group would come to accept Aggy as a vital asset, but not Aiden.

When the explorer group made their way to the camp, they discovered that it was a group of scavenger dwarves… one of which Octavar managed to take hostage. A scuffle ensued, leaving most of the dwarves dead, with two making it away, alive… for now. The three made their way back to the tower, where the builders had the Phoenix close to completion.

Upon arrival, the trio saw that the Phoenix was restored to its almost-former glory. However, the adventurers heard a commotion from outside, and moved to the top of the tower to investigate. They saw that a large army of dwarves had amassed at the base of the tower, and were attempting to siege it. To make matters worse, a herd of the Snow Beasts arrived on the scene and scaled the tower, engaging the group in combat. Madeus and Aiden managed to keep the beasts at bay while Octavar and Glimfarn helped to destroy ropes and siege ladders that the dwarves were using. Brazeloin descended the tower and made the final adjustments on the Phoenix and raised it up for launch.

The sky above their head rumbled with unholy thunder. Snow and lightning fell from the skies while the sound of thunder was deafening to the ears. However, the group managed to get the Phoenix up in the air and made their way away from Silver Reach, and in the nic of time as well. The storm above the mountain, the group flying towards Ravenloft, and the ring of Albatros…. all the gears were falling into place.

Chapter 8: Ravenloft Will Fall and They Will Rise.
The Players Come Into Their Roles

The Crash

Due to the chaotic nature of the world, the adventurers were having trouble keeping the Phoenix aloft. With nature itself seemingly wanting to destroy them every second, the Phoenix let out a final spurt of power. The flying machine went down. Snow and hail swirled around them and lightning flashed right next to their faces. The Phoenix crashed into the ground, throwing the adventurers in different directions from the burning corpse of the craft. Aiden received a vision in his unconscious state, informing him that there was little time remaining before a great calamity would befall Ambitus.

When they came to, the group commandeered a carriage that would take them directly to Ravenloft. They arrived at the town gates, only to find that the carriage was going to be searched by the Order of the Blood Knights. The group managed to knock them out with little trouble.

Once they reached the town square, they witnessed a man, known as the Voice, telling the nature of the TRUE Ambitus, and how the Order of the Blood Knights would cleanse the Serpent Coil of the non-believers. The adventurers tried to fight their way through the crowds and Blood Knights, but were forced back to the polluted waterway, and knocked in, unconscious. While they were floating, they were found and whisked away by an unknown group of paladins to a secret underground location.

The Chase, and an Unexpected Reunion

The group, led by *Viknas*, told the group about what had transpired in their time away from the city. The Order of the Blood Knights had come in and taken power in the city. They were led by the Voice, The Mouth, and the Hand. Viknas told them to seek out some gifted resistance members around the city in order to take down the Order. Viknas also informed them that they had found one more person recently, who had passed out due to some sort of toxin in the water supply. The group found that it was Salvior, who had vanished before the quest into Silver Reach.

One such gifted person was Rotface. They found him in the highest class brothel in Ravenloft, with many, MANY women surrounding him. They attempted to reason with him, Rotface decided he was finished with their words and jumped out the window and tried to run away. The group figured that they would chase him, but Brazeloin informed them that he had slipped a toxin into Rotface’s drink, meaning they would have to catch him before he slipped into a state of living death. The few of them that could leap from rooftop to rooftop managed to catch up with him, and wrestle him to the ground, forcing him to listen to their proposal. He agreed to join their mission and went back to the base with them.
